Shrek, the run away sheep - by Olivia

Once upon a time there was a merino lamb. He liked playing with his friends. He loved his mother’s milk. It was warm.

One day a farmer came to cut off his special tail. “I am scared, Mum. Help Mum, I have been grabbed” said the lamb. But his mum could not hear him. “My special tail is gone!”

The farmer came more and more to round up the sheep. “I don’t like it. I know what to do next time,” said the lamb.

Next time they came, he ran up into the mountains. He stayed there for 6 years. His coat was getting very heavy. It was dangerous!

One day he heard people coming. He tried to hide between the rocks but he fell. Luckily he landed safely because his coat protected him but he could not move. He was stuck.

A musterer discovered the sheep, picked him up and took him to a man. His name was John, the owner of Bendigo Station. He took care of him and gave him the name ‘Shrek’.

Shrek got shorn with scissors and got a new coat made especially for him. He became a celebrity. He got to visit the prime minister at the beehive, he helped raise money for kids that have cancer and he visited old people.

But 10 days ago Shrek died of old age. The people are going to put him in a museum in Wellington, they hope! I hope they do too so I can visit him one day.

  1. What a great descriptive recount telling the story of Shrek's life. I hope they might put him in the museum down here.
