Reg Humphries visits Room 8 at Outram School

What a surprise! Logan's Great Uncle visits us.

Logan H's Great Uncle Reg came to visit us all the way from Canada. Do you remember him? We skyped Uncle Reg last term when we were learning about different ways we communicate with family members. It was lovely to see him in person.

Let the light shine!

We can problem solve! In pairs we were given a bulb, bulb fixture, battery, battery case, and 3 wires with alligator clips and asked to make a circuit so the bulb would light up. It took a while but we persevered and finally some of us succeeded. Yay!

Olivia's cat catches a Tui!

Olivia brought along a dead tui that her cat 'Sparkles' had caught. She put it in the freezer and waited until Mrs Stedman would be at school to show her. The tui has white feathers under its chin and beautiful greeny blue feathers. We also noticed little fine feathers coming out of its mouth. We wondered why? Hopefully Mrs Stedman will help us to find out.

Disco Fever

I felt pretty amazing dancing with Mrs Buschl up on the stage. I can do the boggy dance, the worm dance and the snake dance. I had my church hat on my head and I looked so cool. Aunty Cindy and Paton picked me up. The disco was fun. I got to have a chocolate bar too.

At the Disco

When I first got to the disco I was little shy but near the end I went CRAZY! My friend Sapphire was dressed as the Mad Hatter. Jaime and Cierra won the limbo. I was proud of them. We a did boys vs girls dance off and the girls won! I was sweating hot at the disco. I bought myself one glow stick. I danced that night away. Written by Lily

http://outram-room8isgreat.blogspot.com/

Our blog contains photos, stories, information, any class news etc. We love comments from parents, friends, and relatives as well.

Maths: This term the focus is on Number Knowledge/Basic Facts and Algebra.

Oral Language: This term we are focusing on ‘reading and retelling a text to an audience’ while speaking clearly and fluently using expression. Your child will choose an instructional text from their daily reading group to practise at home and then bring to school on their presentation day. Your child will first read their story to the class and then retell the story without the use of the book. Pictures will be shown if children require help remembering the events in the story. Please refer below for your child’s presentation day.

Theme: We continue our ‘Connections’ focus for the year. This term we are looking at ‘Family Connections’. Could your child please bring along a family photo for Wednesday that will be used in a wall display? Your photo will be returned at the end of the term.

Thank you

Tania Bellamy

Please highlight your child’s name/date and put on the fridge or a noticeboard. Don’t forget to practice reading and retelling your book.

Brave Father Mouse - read by Ethan

Delightful Teddy Bears and Other Favourites

After reading a book about a Teddy Bear called 'Dougal the Garbage Dump Bear' we decided to write a character description about Dougal.
Dougal the Garbage Dump Bear. Dougal the Garbage Dump Bear was a shy, little bear. He was old and dirty and not quite perfect. He wished he could be like the other toys and be clean and new. Dougal got very frightened at the dump because he was scared of the dragon machine. Sometimes he liked to be alone but he loved making new friends and helping others. He had a heart of gold and was kind to everyone. He realized that sometimes bad things happen so that good things can happen. Dougal learnt you just have to make the best of things no matter what happens in your life. Written by Room 8
Today we brought along our own Teddies and wrote teddy descriptions.

Making Lip Licken Ice Cream

After reading a book called 'Rupert's Ice Cream Machine' we decided to invent our own delicious ice cream favour and write a recipe for it. Some favours included Ollie's Ocean Oscar Ice Cream, Lily's Lovely Ice Cream, Jaime's Jumping Jelly Ice Cream, Logan K's Lime, Lollypop, Little Ice Cream, Matthew's M & M, Milky Ice Cream, Olivia's Olly, Octopus Ice Cream.
Today we made yummy Lip-Licken Ice Cream. After a second attempt it worked! Yay! Many thanks to Lily's mum who came to the rescue and made a second batch for us. After freezing overnight we will add our favourite toppings and ENJOY!
