Being Alone - Written by Lily

Last night I was in bed. I had aches in my head and pains in my legs. It was a cold night and I was frightened. I cuddled my teddy and Stitch our cat. Later on I scrambled out of bed and I say “ Oh Dad, I am so scared”. He gives me a kiss and a cuddle. “ I love you” he says. “ Now go back to bed”. I quietly go back. I snuggle down and I go to sleep. In the morning I feel very, very tired. “ I don’t want to go to school” I said. “I want to stay in bed”. But I have to go to school so I go to school and I have a great day!

Bones and Joints Galore!

Bone and Joint Expert, Mrs Kakahi taught us about our bones and their special names including our vertebrae column -which is our spine, the clavicle bone - which is our collar bone, the humerus, ulna and radius bone -which is our 3 arm bones and many more.
Our skull is made up of plates of bone fused together called Fibrous Joints.

Did you know the smallest bone in your body is the stirrup bone which is found inside your ear.
Did you know we have 206 bones in our bodies and 26 bones in our hands.
Our knee and elbow joints are a hinge joint that allows movement backwards and forwards.
Our shoulder and hip joints are called Ball and Socket joints. They allow rotation.
Thank you to Mrs Kakahi. We learnt a lot about bones and joints.

Goodbye Jaz

Jaz's last day at Outram School. Jaz has been with us since the Chch earthquake. We have loved having her in Room 8. She has made so many new friends and fitted in perfectly. A real gem!
We will miss you. xx

Nurse Mrs Mitchell & Healthy Eating

Expert Nurse, Mrs Mitchell taught us all about eating the right foods and how our bodies use the food.
If we eat good healthy food and drink plenty of water our heart pumps the blood around our body evenly, our kidneys function better and produce nearly clear urine. We don't get sick as often and we have plenty of energy to keep on learning.

Matthew the Skeleton Man

Matthew wore his skeleton t-shirt and his new pirate skull top to school. His clothing fits in well with our 'Connections' topic learning about how bones are connected in our bodies.

The Junior Triathlon by Reporter Hunter

I was the reporter. Yesterday Outram School had their Junior Triathlon. I was with Mrs Buschl taking lots of photos of the children swimming first. They raced to the other side of the pool then they jumped out and zoomed on the bikes. They raced around Outram School to the wee sandpit and dropped their bikes on the grass, there was a huge pile of bikes! They ran around the field to the finishing line and then they were on the concrete, At the finish they got a golden medal and then it was time for a sausage. I asked the children how they felt, they said they were frightened of Mrs Bayne telling them to swim... "Come on, go real fast". Some children said they were tired and proud!

Congratulations Hunter

Mr Carroll was very excited to see Hunter get his medal at Monday's assembly for walking across the pool with a board by himself. Hunter showed great determination and dedication.

Picnic at the Park

On Thursday we turned our classroom into a healthy lunch factory. We created an assembly line and we all had a job to do to make our lunches. First the buns were buttered, then ham, cheese and carrot were added. Then they were wrapped and put in a plastic bag with a bag of popcorn and an apple. Yum Yum! Then off to the park we walked with our lunch. We had a lovely time and finished off with a sing song with Mrs Wright and a play.

Oram's Last Day

It was Oram's last day on Friday. We wish you well at your new school in Mosgiel. We will certainly miss you, Oram. You have been a super role model in Room 8 who is always very helpful and kind to others. Good Luck and remember to always try your best!

We Love Christchurch! - Our thoughts are with you...

To help raise money for the CHCH earthquake appeal we each brought along some coins and made the shape of a love heart. We raised over $200 for the people of CHCH. As a mark of respect we stood silent for 2 minutes to pay our respects and lowered the NZ flag to half mast.
